I cook and blog mostly vegetarian, gluten-free and low-carb recipes, with the odd dash of sugar and starch thrown in. I’m part of a vegetarian, gluten-free book group (due to the combined dietary restrictions of different members) that’s really all about the cake! Many of the recipes on this blog have passed the discerning collective palate of book group before being posted. I’m also a hill-walker, which means I’m constantly looking for high-energy lunches and snacks that pack well, taste great and can be eaten one-handed with insulated gloves on in a Scottish gale.
In my day job at the University of Edinburgh I research contemporary food and nutrition culture. I wrote my PhD on low-carbohydrate diets, questioning the idea that they’re closer to “what nature intended us to eat”. I’ve just started a new project looking at the history of the Scottish diet stereotype. I’ve also written about the regulation of new areas of science, and the influence of science on the arts, society and policy.
I hope you enjoy the blog! I always love to get feedback and hear from other bloggers, foodies and writers – please post a comment or follow me on twitter @vegeknight.
